Well, love triangles are not a new concept in the film industry. No doubt that this age-old formula can make the movie a sure success. Love triangles are always interesting to watch because it focuses on the elements of love, romance and drama. Overall this “threesome funda” has every element for making any dull plot entertaining.
Taking the history of Bollywood, most blockbuster flicks are based on love triangles. Some of my favorite picks are-
Lala Begum (2018)
Zee5 Flim Festival brings us a Pakistani drama short film Lala Begum, with two sisters namely Meher and Seher. The story revolves around a cold relationship between these two estranged sisters. Seher returned to her father’s home after her husband’s death with the intention of claiming her share in the property. Knowing that Seher ran away to marry Ahmed, the man Meher was in love with, she refused to give any share of the property to her. It is a story about their bitter relationship with each other due to the love of their life & the battle for the property which ends up rooting-out many unpleasant secrets.

A Comedy-drama film written and directed by Anurag Basu was a huge success of the year 2012. The story started with hearing and speech impaired boy Murphy (Barfi) Johnson (Barfi) who fell in love with Shruti. But due to the social and parental pressure, she married a “normal” man to lead a normal life. Later on, Barfi met his childhood autistic friend Jhilmil and they both fall in love with each other. They decided to get married and lead a normal life. The movie Barfi made us realize that Love is not defined by Normality or Abnormality.
A realistic romantic –drama directed by Homi Adajania. The story is about a love triangle between an NRI named Gautam and two girls- Meera and Veronica with completely opposite personalities. Meera, Veronica and Gautam become friends and live together in the same apartment. After having a “no string attached” kind of relationship with Veronica, Gautam found his true love in the shy girl Meera.
A story of two guys Sameer and Kunal both are fun loving flirts until they meet Neha. They both fall for her. But Neha considered them only as friends and found her love in Abhimanyu Singh.
Rehna Hai Tere Dil Main (2001)
A blockbuster hit of 2001 directed by Goutham Manon and loved by the whole nation. The movie started with a fight between two boys Madhav and Rajiv. Madhav falls madly in love with Reena who is Rajiv’s fiance Madhav or Maddy introduces himself as Rajiv to Reena on their first meet as she has never met Rajiv before.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
A movie that remains forever in your heart if you are a 90’s Kid. Starting with two best friends Rahul and Anjali. Anjali loved Rahul, but Rahul found his love in Tina, a newcomer in college. Anjali is left heartbroken when she finds out that Rahul and Tina loved each other. Years later, Rahul’s daughter whose name was also Anjali tried to fulfill her mother’s (Tina) last wish of reuniting the best friends.
