Why the pH is so important for baby’s skin?

Why the pH is so important for baby’s skin

Hello Mommies,

Our skin plays an important role for our overall well-being. It is a protective barrier between our body and outside world. pH is one of its protective tool. But our skin’s pH is constantly changed by pollution, temperature changes and use of harsh chemicals. pH is of skin is maintained by skin surface and skin glands. Our skin’s natural pH is slightly acidic and it is created by skin’s acid mantle which is a film formed on the surface of our skin and acts as a protective barrier.

What is skin’s pH?

The pH is a measure of Acidity and Alkalinity of a substance. It is measured on pH scale or bar where 0 indicates acidic and 14 indicates alkaline. Water has pH value 7 which is neutral and the the pH value ranging from 0-7 is acidic and the 7-14 is alkaline.

Healthy skin has a pH of 5.5 which is somewhat acidic. But baby’s skin varies from adults skin. The new-born babies have slightly higher pH almost close to neutral.

Why pH is so important for our skin?

Skin’s pH acts as a protective barrier because of the acid mantle. It neutralizes alkaline based substances like harsh surfactants and also inhibits the growth of bacteria and restores skin. If skin’s pH rises into alkaline range it’s natural balance is disturbed. It can become dry, sensitive and infected. If the baby’s skin pH can be high then the baby is prone to dermatitis or has inflammatory skin or has less miniaturisation.

How to maintain the right pH balance of baby’s skin?

All Sebamed products maintain a pH value of 5.5. Babies are born with a skin pH value of 7. The acid mantle which protects the baby’s delicate skin takes upto 3 months to develop, the pH of the skin then becomes 5.5. pH neutral products are not a friend of your baby’s skin. Any pH value other than 5.5 can severely damage sensitive skin.

pH 5.5 leads to softer ,smoother and healthier skin, helps in skin renewal and imparts a healthy glow to the skin and propects skin from infections. To protect & maintain your baby’s smooth, supple skin, all Sebamed products ensure a strict sustainability of the pH value 5.5.

Sebamed products have been evolved by dermatologists to meet your skin’s certain needs. For example, traditional soap may help clean you, but it has a pH between 9 to 10 which is very alkaline for baby’s sensitive skin, whereas Sebamed baby products have pH 5.5 which help grow the acid mantle necessary to protect the baby’s delicate skin.

Sebamed products can be used from Day 1 and are completely safe for newborn babies.

For your baby’s daily skin-care routine, we would recommend you to use the following products:

Sebamed products are the safest with only 0.0003% cases of irritation which ensures yours baby’s skin remains truly pHenomenal and has the best protection from Day 1.

That’s all for today. Hope you find this post helpful. See you in my next post.
