Beginning from 2018, when the show first premiered on Zee Bangla, it has been going strong and garnering all the love of the audience. So far Krishnakoli has bagged plenty of awards – the latest being Zee Bangla Sonar Sansar in 2020 – and it’s currently tagged as the most-watched Bengali drama on television. Loosely based on another smashing hit Hindi drama Saat Phere: Saloni ka Safar, Krishnakoli is the story of a dark skinned girl named Shyama who sets out on her journey after marrying Nikhil. Having faced discrimination for her skin colour and loads of roadblocks coming her way, Shyama is undeterred to create her own identity. She believes the colour of her skin is analogous to Lord Krishna’s. Swimming through obstacles of her life, Shyama strives to make a career in music. The show is about her journey and the ultimate triumph of the love between her and Nikhil.
Although Krishnakoli is adorned with a talented supporting star cast, the main jewels of the show are the main protagonists and antagonist – Tiyasha Roy as Shyama, Neel Bhattacharya as Nikhil, and Rimjhim Mitra as Disha. Because of the dynamics between them and their on-point performances, the show has garnered so much love and popularity from the audience since day one.
more popularly known as Shyama – is 22 years old, hailing from Kolkata. Krishnakoli is her first work on television. A year before auditioning for the show she got married to Suban Roy – a television actor as well. They had met during a theatre workshop and decided to get married during very early days of their courtship.
Neel
loved by everyone as Nikhil – did his MBA in Marketing before venturing into acting. He is 33 years old and his first show was Thik Jeno Love Story (2014) that aired on Star Jalsha. Like Tiyasha, his parents also didn’t belong to the entertainment industry. Neel’s father is a doctor by profession. He likes to travel and hang out with his friends as one can see from his Instagram account. Neel is very active on the social media platform with his own hashtag – #goneel.
Playing the antagonist Disha on Krishnakoli – is a senior Bengali television and film actress. She made her television debut with Mon Niye Kachakachi, after winning the title of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Bangla Season 1 in 2013. Besides television, her popular movies were Teen Yaari Katha, Cross Connection, Paglu 2, Ebar Shobor etc. A little known fact about her is that Rimjhim is also a trained Arabic dancer.
